I came across this little gem yesterday in an email.

Given that health care is the topic of the day, I believe a new diagnosis is in order. I call this the Obamian slip – similar to the Freudian slip, but of greater magnitude. The suffer of this event is unlikely to recover any semblance of dignity during the episode and may suffer from a damaged reputation long after. It could even be the suffer is of questionable reputation to begin with. Strangely, the disorder appears to affect a disproportionate number of liberals. Current scientific consensus appears to be reaching agreement this is due to the fact that liberals attempt to hide the truth more often than the general population. While only a theory at this time, it is gaining wide acceptance in the scientific community.

The Obamian slip is characterized by a slip of the tongue, unconsciously initiated, that exposes the true agenda of the sufferer, blocking them from obscuring the truth through the use of neuronal pathways in the frontal cortex. Another symptom is the attempt to recover from such a slip is often met by a second event which only redefines the first event in different terminology. The affliction is often caused by a dysfunction in the brain itself, with the sufferer unable to effectively utilize mental function in an effort to hide truth or intent. Repeated attempts lead to additional failures until the patient gives up any attempt to recover from the event itself.

Recall prior to the elections the drilling (no pun intended) of oil company executives concerning their “obscene” profits. I won’t go into why these profits are not obscene here – maybe in another post.

Watch as Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) inserts foot mouth, attempts to backtrack, and then repeats her faux pas in a vain attempt to change the wording. Watch the reaction of the two on her right. This is Obama’s grand plan exposed to the larger public. Many of us are quite aware of the liberal’s hatred for capitalism – this just drives the point home. Hopefully this video, making the rounds once again, will land on the computers of additional viewers.

Such was Maxine’s mistake that she found herself unable to recover. The watcher, provided this visual testimony, can only conclude that something close to a grand mal seizure was taking place. The truth, let out, immediately initiated the emergency alarm in the brain that something needed immediate rectification. However, the brain, the initiator of said spoken truth, in a vain attempt to find the reset button, causes the patient to blurt out the truth a second time. I could just see all those synapses vainly firing in an vicious attempt at recovery.

Watch the listen to the Obamian slip in action.

From the New York Times: Health Policy Now Carved Out at a More Centrist Table

Already, the group of six has tossed aside the idea of a government-run insurance plan that would compete with private insurers, which the president supports but Republicans said was a deal-breaker.

Instead, they are proposing a network of private, nonprofit cooperatives.

They have also dismissed the House Democratic plan to pay for the bill’s roughly $1 trillion, 10-year cost partly with an income surtax on high earners.

The three Republicans have insisted that any new taxes come from within the health care arena. As one option, Democrats have proposed taxing high-end insurance plans with values exceeding $25,000.

The Senate group also seems prepared to drop a requirement, included in other versions of the legislation, that employers offer coverage to their workers. “We don’t mandate employer coverage,” Senator Olympia J. Snowe, Republican of Maine and one of the six, said Monday.

As the Senate Finance Committee is the only bipartisan bill and has the greatest chance of becoming our bill, I am pleased to hear of the death of the public option and employer mandates. Not sure about the co-opts though. This could be something similar to a public option in disguise in terms of the effects on the private sector. The public needs more details, but at least we have the start of reasonable reform.

An Obama is about to lie again alert. Michelle Malkin on AARP does Obamacare townhall. I wonder if he read the bill yet? And just who is invited to this town hall? Who will be asking the questions? More softballs? Methinks Obama and his liberal tribe are going to make the same mistake they always make – underestimating the intelligence of the public. Hey, its what elites do best. Look for polls to drop further as Obama continues to open his mouth. Will we see an Obamian slip?

This goes well with the Gallup poll of the day: Two in Three Doubt Congress’ Grasp of Healthcare Issues:

Americans view themselves as more knowledgeable than members of Congress regarding the current debate over healthcare reform. Nearly half (48%) say they personally have a good understanding of the issues involved, while only 27% say so about members of Congress.

These Gallup findings are based on interviewing conducted Sunday, July 26, as the push toward new healthcare reform legislation continues to dominate the focus of Congress, the White House, and the national news media.

That less than 3 in 10 Americans believe that Congress has a good understanding of the issues involved in the healthcare debate underscores the basic lack of confidence that Americans have in the men and women they elect and send off to Washington to represent them. Gallup’s recent update on confidence in institutions, for example, found that 17% of Americans have a great deal/quite a lot of confidence in Congress, near the bottom of the list of institutions tested.

That’s right, keep talking Obama and Pelosi while the adults in the room address real reform.

Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey on Friends of Angelo knew about feeling the love. Oh, oh, looks like two democrats are in trouble:

Chris Dodd (Banking Committee) and Kent Conrad (Budget Committee, and also a member on Finance) both denied for a year that they had any idea that they received below-market rates on mortgages and other VIP considerations. Yesterday, Congress heard testimony that has exposed both men as liars

Meagan McArdle on something my wife and I talk about often: Marriage and the tax hit. It does seem like an attempt to destroy traditional marriage. Get married and the government will punish you. Seems odd to me.

CNN Political Ticker: Obama’s Cabinet claims $243 million in federal savings. Then of course there is the main street media’s unreported stories of Obama spending trillions in bailouts. Also missing is the fact that he would like to spend trillions more in health care reform, another stimulus, cap-and-tax, and other socialist programs. Total savings? Probably somewhere around -20 trillion over the next two decades. Consider me unimpressed.
